EA Insider: Why Warhammer failed and SW:TOR will (not)

A Bioware employee who will soon be dismissed from the company, under the codename EA Louse,  just wrote an article about why Warhammer online had failed. On the article, tells some stories inside EA and points out that The Old Republic has cost more than $ 300 million but will be one of the greatest failures in the history of MMOs from EA.

In the last November, 1500 employees left EA. Now EA Louse indicates that EA’s next round of EA’s layoffs will be in this November. “Great people don’t want to work for EA”, it seems that Bobby Kotick’s word isn’t groundless.

On the other hand, EA continues to outsource the development of videogames to the studios in places like Shanghai, Melbourne and Montreal and makes piles of videogames and publishes them.

And Bioware? Don’t make me laugh. They’ve spent more money making the Old Republic than James Cameron spent on Avatar. Shit you not. More than $ 300 million! Can you believe that?

And you know what they’re most proud of? This is the kicker. They are most proud of the sound. No seriously. Something like a 20 Gig installation, and most of it is voiceover work. That’s the best they have. The rest of the game is a joke. EA knows it and so does George Lucas, they’re panicking , and so most of Mythic has already been cannibalized to work in Austin on it because they can’t keep pushing back launch.

Read the EA Louse’s blog in full here.

Be sure to read the comments also, since there are some from the insiders from the EA, Mythic and Bioware.

Also there is a blogpost from Jeff Preston (Art And Design), who is talking about some names mentioned in insider’s blog.

  1. That blog (Jeff Preston) is only visible to people he has invited. What a stupid move to keep a blog and have it on privacy, especially if you’re going to “convince” people about something like this.
